How Auto-Recharge Works
Auto-recharge automatically tops up your balance when it falls below your chosen threshold. Perfect for heavy AI users who don't want to manually add credits.
What is Auto-Recharge?
Auto-recharge is an optional feature that automatically charges your saved payment method to top up your balance when it gets low. You set the rules, and we handle the rest.
Requirements
To use auto-recharge, you need:
- Active Pro subscription
- Saved payment method (from a previous top-up or explicit payment method setup)
How It Works
Step 1: Your Balance Falls Below Threshold
When you use AI features, the cost is deducted from your balance. If your balance drops below your threshold (e.g., $5), auto-recharge triggers.
Step 2: Automatic Top-Up
We automatically charge your saved payment method to bring your balance to your target amount (e.g., $15).
Step 3: Balance Restored
Your balance is topped up automatically within 1-2 seconds. You can continue using AI features without interruption.
Setting Up Auto-Recharge
Step 1: Open Auto-Recharge Settings
- Go to Account Settings → Billing
- Find the "AI Credits Balance" section
- Click Auto-Recharge Settings
Step 2: Configure Settings
You can customize:
Threshold ($1 - $100)
When should auto-recharge trigger? If your balance falls below this amount, we'll top it up.
Example: Set threshold to $5
Top-Up Amount ($5 - $1,000)
How much should we charge when topping up? This is the target balance after auto-recharge.
Example: Set top-up amount to $15
Note: We only charge the difference. If you have $3 and target is $15, we charge $12.
Monthly Limit (Optional)
Maximum amount to auto-recharge per month. Protects you from unexpected charges.
Example: Set limit to $50/month
Step 3: Enable Auto-Recharge
Toggle on "Enable Auto-Recharge" and save your settings.
Example Scenario
Let's say you configure:
- Threshold: $5
- Top-Up Amount: $20
- Monthly Limit: $60
What happens:
- You start with $25 balance
- You use AI features, balance drops to $4.50
- Auto-recharge triggers (below $5 threshold)
- We charge $15.50 (to bring balance from $4.50 to $20)
- Your balance is now $20
- Monthly counter: $15.50 used (can still auto-recharge $44.50 this month)
Monthly Limit Protection
The monthly limit prevents runaway spending:
- Tracks total auto-recharge amount per month
- Resets on the 1st of each month
- If limit reached, auto-recharge stops until next month
- You'll receive a notification (if limit is reached)
- You can still manually top up anytime
When Monthly Limit is Reached
If your monthly limit is reached:
- Auto-recharge is temporarily paused for the month
- Manual top-ups still work
- Auto-recharge resumes automatically next month
Payment Failures
If an auto-recharge payment fails (e.g., expired card, insufficient funds):
- Auto-recharge is automatically disabled
- You'll receive an email notification
- You'll need to update your payment method
- Re-enable auto-recharge after fixing the issue
Why disable? To prevent retry loops and multiple failed charges. Once you fix the payment method, you can re-enable auto-recharge.

Best Practices
Setting the Right Threshold
- Light users: $3-$5 threshold
- Regular users: $10-$15 threshold
- Heavy users: $20-$30 threshold
Setting the Right Top-Up Amount
- Should be 3-5x your threshold
- Prevents frequent small charges
- Example: $5 threshold → $20 top-up amount
Setting Monthly Limits
- Start conservative ($30-$50/month)
- Increase based on actual usage
- Set high enough to cover typical AI usage
- But low enough to prevent surprises
Security
Auto-recharge uses the same secure payment processing as manual top-ups:
- Payments processed through Stripe
- Your card details never touch our servers
- PCI-compliant security
- You can disable anytime
FAQs
Can I use auto-recharge without a saved payment method?
No. You need to save a payment method first (by doing a manual top-up or setting up a payment method explicitly).
Will I be charged multiple times if my balance is very low?
No. Auto-recharge triggers once when you cross the threshold, then tops up to your target amount. It won't trigger again until your balance falls below the threshold again.
Can I set different thresholds for different AI features?
No. Auto-recharge uses a single threshold for all AI features.
What happens if my payment method expires?
The auto-recharge payment will fail, and auto-recharge will be disabled. Update your payment method and re-enable auto-recharge.
